Precious Moments

Precious Moments

2 Timothy 3:16-17New King James Version (NKJV)

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

How important is your time with God? Do you seek him in trouble only and neglect him in your contentment.  Is time with God apart of your daily routine or do you pencil him in as needed? God loves consistency; he wants to be the most influential part of our lifes.  He desires to be your all and all and not the one you run to when all else fails.  He is a jealous God; Exodus 34:14 (NIV) 14 Do not worship any other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.  How can we explain that, especially since we have always been taught that jealousy is a sin?  It’s simple, only God deserves Praise, Worship, Honor, it all belongs to him but often  we give cars, clothes, commodities and any other  materialistic idols and treat them as Gods he becomes jealous.  He is not jealous or envious of what he does not have but of other things we use to take his place.

For instance if I buy a new car and decide to wash and wax it on Sunday morning and miss worship service, then my car is now an idol god for taking my time away from him.  God is jealous of that, no other god should come before him.  He is due the entire honor and the glory.  Do we get jealous of time we believe should be ours when our spouses, our significant others even our closest friends spend with someone else.  Maybe they give someone a compliment and you look at them with an evil eye, simply because they didn’t give you one.  That’s what we do when we look away from God to find other things more appealing than he; when we spend time shopping, hanging out and not time alone with him.

You buy a new purse and your co-worker says she hates it, when you know she was talking about she wish she had the new purse that just came out.  You are able to buy the purse and she is not, that’s the jealousy that God doesn’t like.  When we are envious of what others have.  We must take the time to understand that jealousy is an evil spirit within us.   It can cause people to dislike us, hate us even.  But, it’s not just material possessions, people become envious of personalities.  Ever see people who walk in authority, whose attitude draws people toward them.  A person people love being around, but for some reason you just don’t click with that person.  Jealousy!

If God is a jealous God, our time spent with him must be at a level that pleases him.  God wants us to spend quality time with him not just urgent time with him.  We need God in every area and every aspect of our life, not only in our distresses.  I believe if I spend more time with him I don’t need to worry about him being near when I need him; he’s already there.

How do we spend time with God?  David said as he was in the wilderness of Judah as it reads in Psalms 63:1 “Oh God, You are my God; early will I seek you”.  I thought about David and what he is saying that early in the morning he looks for him, maybe if we look for him early in the morning as we bow in prayer, maybe as we read and mediate on his word.  We will find God’s plan for our life, he will give us power and a boldness to withstand any act of evil that come up against us. In order for us to be fully equipped and covered by his armor our time must be well spent with him.   Even as we worship him in service, our time with God should be precious.  Our ultimate and true desire should be to spend time with God and make each moment we share with him Precious Moments.
