Running On Empty
Running On Empty
Isaiah 40:31 King James Version (KJV)
“But they that wait upon
the Lord shall renew their
strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be
weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”.
I
can make it. That’s my favorite line
when I don’t feel like stopping for gas.
I can make it. When I should stop
for lunch but I have this one last project to complete at work. I can make it. When my body is tired and I
need to lie down and rest. Running on an
empty tank, empty stomach and empty mind is what happens we run under our own
power. Our cars need gas, our stomachs
need food and our bodies need rest.
What
about our spiritual tanks? How do refuel
our souls. Seriously, how do we renew our strength? I’ve asked myself that question over and
over. What is the fuel for our soul? I’ve
found that there is a fueling station that allows us to pull over at any given
time and at any place. It allows us to
pause our thinking and turn away from evil thoughts and refuel our innermost
thoughts into a direction of peace.
When
we take the time to pray, God fills us with his love, he restores us; he
redirects us to a place he wants us to be.
There is power in prayer. When I
pray, I see things clearer. Think about
it, what happens to you when you’re tired? You lose focus, you make mistakes,
and you rush to a finish. When you look
at the finish product you begin the think, no, maybe I should have done it
another way. What happens when you go
the grocery store hungry, you overspend because everything looks enticing. Your budget is blown and you end up with a
lot of junk you don’t need. I could
literally list so many things that can happen when you body is tired. I hope
you get the picture.
Let’s
talk spiritually; what happens when your soul is running on empty. When you heart is broken, when you mind is
disturbed, when your soul needs comforting.
I’ve been there, spiritually empty.
“No weapon in my hand, no God on my side”, I remember hearing the old
deacon in my church say, “But I heard the voice of Jesus say still to fight on”
and they were able to; simple because they paused to have a little talk with
Jesus. They went down in prayer to rise
up in power. They pulled over to the
fueling station and refueled their spiritual gas tanks. When you stop to refuel with prayer; God can
fill your cup with an abundance of blessings, he can mend your broken heart and
comfort your soul. Prayer changes things.
Prayer is literally what gas is to cars; it’s what food is to the hungry and
what rest is to a tired body.
When
you take the time to pray things begin to happen; you find a strength you
didn’t know you had. You mind becomes
focused on favorable things and not distracted by evil things. Your spirit is renewed; your heart is abl to
love your enemies and even those who deceitfully use you . Prayer is a powerful tool to a believer.
Satan will flee from you, burdens will be lifted and ways will be made In Jesus
Name. Prayer can cast out demons, heal the
sick and raise the dead. There is Power
in prayer.
When
you find yourself running on empty, pull over to the filling station. Ask God to fill you up with his power, with
his love, with his understanding. God
hears and answers prayer. What I love
about prayer is when I get in trouble I don’t have to worry about a sign that
reads nearest “Praying Station” fifty miles ahead. I can just start praying to God, I don’t even
need to pull over. Fill me Lord, let it
overflow. I don’t even need to cap off
my prayer tank, because I know the more I talk the more he will listen. God hears and answers prayer.
Stop
running on empty, God has made provisions for us to never be in need or want of
anything. Go to God in prayer; allow him
to fill your heart, mind and spirit. You never have to worry about how high the
price is; he paid the price on Calvary.
You never have to worry about God running out of blessings; his word
says you will not have room to receive all that he has in store for you. Take the time to pull over and Fill your
spiritual tanks with prayer and God promised he will never leave s or forsake
us; God will fill us with his love.
